Job Listing: Program Coordinator

Part-time/hourly pay with no benefits
June 1, 2007 - December 31, 2007 (6 months)

Friends of the Bloomingdale Trail (FBT) is a grassroots organization advocating for the conversion of the unused Bloomingdale freight railroad into a multi-use, elevated linear park. Over the next several years, FBT will actively fundraise, communicate and organize communities in support of this dynamic project. Working closely with our Executive Committee, this new staff person will enable our organizational growth in collaboration with our partners including the City of Chicago, Trust for Public Land and Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. As FBT’s first paid staff, this position will consist of various administrative responsibilities including the establishment of a new office presence at the Center for Neighborhood Technology.

Responsibilites

  • Assist in the development of “Health Committee” comprised of members from the medical community
  • Assist in the publication of an initial Community Vision document by fall, 2007 to submit to the public/private Bloomingdale Collaborative
  • Expanding FBT membership
  • Supervise interns and volunteers
  • Conduct external communication activities including website, email and print newsletters and other publications
  • Assist with fundraising

Qualifications

Minimum four years of related work experience. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Excellent writing, communications and inter-personal skills necessary. Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and be a self-starter. Bucktown, Humboldt Park, Logan Square or Wicker Park residents preferred.

Compensation

This is a contract position of 20 hours per week. Must have flexible schedule available: some weekdays, evenings and weekend hours. Pay is commensurate with experience. Will report to the President and Vice President of the board of directors.
