More land for access: City moves to acquire Milwaukee Ave parcels

The City of Chicago is acquiring land adjacent to the Bloomingdale rail embankment at Milwaukee Avenue in the Wicker Park/Bucktown neighborhood for the purpose of converting them to parks and future access to the Bloomingdale Trail. Trust for Public Land will purchase the parcels of land from their current owners and turn them over to the City. This is terrific news, as Milwaukee Avenue has been seen as a key access point for the Trail for some time, the first likely access east of Western Avenue.

You can read more the ordinance about the acquisition the City approved, as well as an ordinance to spend money to help the process along.

This development follows the securing of the future “pocket park” and access point at Whipple & Albany Avenues. We’ll be tracking the progress on this map—definitely more to come!

Sunday Parkways Discussion coming up

Our friends at Chicagoland Bicycle Federation are hosting a discussion Wednesday, April 11, 2007, from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. to go over the Sunday Parkways program. It’s a chance for you to learn about it, which would turn certain Chicago streets into parks for a few hours every Sunday, and to voice your concerns, comments, and questions.

Definitely check it out: head on over to Upcoming.org for details and you can let everyone know if you plan to attend. See you there!
